Performed works

The geotechnical study was developed so as to establish the causes leading to major subsidence throughout the site and to address such subsidence. The building was constructed within an area with alluvial deposits, meadow deposits of Someșul Mic River, settled on top of Ocna Dej Formation (diapir). Deposits rich in vegetal material and fine parts have been identified through boreholes, present as pockets of mires and peatery, highly compressible. Thus, we have identified the fact that this area is in fact a river’s dead distributary or an abandoned channel. The depth of these layers is ranging between 4 and 8 meters, except in de case of one CPTu located inside the existing facility that managed to identify a 25 m depth. As far as the performed works, we have done the followings:

  • 4 geotechnical boreholes have been advanced down to 11 to 30 m in depth, outside the building
  • 6 Cone Penetration Tests (CPTu), among which two were performed inside the building
  • Laboratory tests: physical properties, mechanical properties – to establish the consolidation

The data assessment resulted in drafting a geotechnical study and 3D model of layers. The conclusion was that the thicknesses of layers, as well as their depth are highly irregular. Therefore, there is a possibility that the pillars on which the building is placed, to be insufficiently embedded within the soil recommended as foundation layer
